Healthy, No Sugar Added Orange Smoothie
Got lots of oranges lying around that you don’t really want to peel? Wondering what to do with oranges? This healthy smoothie is your answer! It’s packed with lots of vitamin c, calcium, potassium, protein, vitamin a and fiber! Bonus: it’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up for you AND baby! My one year old loved it.
I’m one of those people who loves oranges and likes to think I’m not too lazy to peel them as a snack but… I’ve had a bunch of oranges sitting around for longer than I’d like to admit so I thought I’d accept defeat and try making a smoothie with them. Recently I was on a “tropical” smoothie kick and adding one orange was the piece de resistance. But 5 oranges? Let’s see.
Here’s what I used:
1 ripe banana
1 cup frozen chopped mango (make it a heaping cup!)
~1/3 cup whole fat greek yogurt, non-sweetened
5 (!) oranges, roughly peeled
300 ml water
I didn’t peel the oranges one by one, rather I roughly peeled/chopped the skin off. I figured a little membrane was some nice extra fiber! I threw this all into the blender for 60 seconds on max blend.
The verdict? The taste was really lovely, like a fresh orange creamsicle, and absolutely no added sweetener necessary thanks to the mango and ripe banana! I’d definitely recommend this as a healthy but tasty treat, though I might suggest 1 or 2 less oranges! With this many, there’s definitely still some pulp so you’ve gotta be someone who likes pulpy OJ!
